First time Tutor with Tuition Assignment at First Tuition Lesson.

 

What to bring and show at first lesson? 

1. Copy of Qualifications: Show it during all 1st lessons.
2. NRIC: Show it during all 1st lessons.
3. Foolscap Paper: For your scribbling.
4. Calculator: For calculating purposes in Maths, Science and others.
5. Dictionary: Use it as teaching aids. 
6. Tools: Red ink pen, pencil, eraser, ruler and others. 
7. Attendance Book: Ensure the student signed at each lesson, to avoid future trouble.
8. Communication Book: Progress report and homework for student.
9. Drinking water: for yourself.

Before the lesson:

1. Call the Parent one day ahead, in case they forgotten and ask to speak to student/s. 
2. Revise the topics. Refresh it mentally. 
3. Plan your trip to arrive 5~10 minutes earlier. Be punctual. 
4. Plan your lesson: Try to avoid using the student's text-book to teach? 
5. Ask the student, do you want homework? If student want, just give 2 and tell if you’ve time, please do more.
6. Buy Assessment Book if parent agreed. Keep the receipt and ask for reimbursement. 
7. Each lesson you prepare 2 model answers and give it to student for refer.
8. Communication Book: Progress report and homework for student.

At 1st lesson:

1. Introduce yourself: Be friendly and keep a Smiling Face. Remember, a Smile is worth a thousand words.  
2. Ask how the student is performing, the weaker subject and school attending now.
3. Set academic target with the student.
4. Praise the student in every opportunity. Refer to: “88 ways to praise a Child”.
5. Remember, to enjoy your experience in teaching and seeing them learning. 
6. Caution. Do not baby-sit the student by asking the student to do Assessments during the lesson.
7. Assessment Sheet/Book as homework is advisable. This is what most Parents will request.

Regular Test & Revision after every 4 to 8 lessons: 

It is more effective and enjoyable for Learning. This process of inputting information to the student is the mental energy of understanding. Learning from mistakes, is regular practise and grasping the concepts. Regular Test and Revision increases the understanding and the memory of the individual. The student’s motivation is higher and has better retention of the knowledge.
